How To Evangelize

THE BASICS

The most important aspect of evangelizing is to focus on the fact that we’re all born into sin, we are all sinners in need of a Savior and by God’s grace, He provided the gift of Salvation to us through His Son.

Don’t focus on the specific sin. It doesn’t matter if you’re a murderer, drug addict, porn addict, alcoholic or homosexual, the Gospel message is the same. We will all stand before God and be judged based on His Law, which we all have broken. We need to repent of our sin and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and turn from our sin.

GOOD PERSON - Would you consider yourself to be a good person?

Every person thinks themselves to be a good person. Almost everyone will answer yes to this question. Since God’s Law, the Ten Commandments are which we are to be judged, lead them through a few of those...

(Proverbs 20:6)

GOD’S LAW - Do you think you’ve kept the Ten Commandments?

Ask them if they’ve ever lied. They will of course, say yes. What does that make them? A liar. Ask them if they’ve ever stolen something, even as a child. They will say yes. What does that make them? A thief. Ask them if they’ve ever disobeyed their parents. They will say yes. They have dishonored their mother and father. Ask them if they’ve ever lusted after a man or woman. They will say yes. Jesus says if you’ve lusted after a woman, you’ve committed adultery with her in your heart. In just four commandments, we’ve established they’re a liar, thief, adulterer and dishonoring their parents.

(James 2:10)

JUDGEMENT - If God judges you by that standard, will you be innocent or guilty?

Ask them, by these standards, do they think they will be guilty or innocent when they stand before God? The Bible says we will be judged by God according to His law.

(Romans 2:12, 3:19)

DESTINY - What will happen when you die? Will you end up in Heaven or Hell?

Ask them what they think will happen when they die. Tell them what the Bible says, that we will either enter into the Kingdom of Heaven or God will say “depart from me, for I never knew you” (Hell)

(Revelation 21:8)

CROSS - What did God do in order for us to be reconciled to Him and avoid eternal damnation?

Tell them the Good News. Jesus died on the cross and rose again. On the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, He took God’s wrath and the punishment that we deserved. God cannot overlook our sins, His justice must be satisfied and there is no way for man to “pay God back”. God reveals His love by sending His own eternal Son to take upon Himself a human nature, to be true God and true man at the same time, so that He could take our place on the cross and bear God’s wrath against our sins in our place.

(1 John 4:10, John 3:16)

REPENTANCE - Confess your sin and turn away from it

Tell them about repentance. It’s not enough to simply believe in Jesus Christ. We must confess our sin and turn away from it. We are spiritually dead and unable to love God or turn from our sin but through hearing God’s Word He is able to give us new life. It’s called being Born Again. God gives us a new heart and a new mind and a new will. The evidence of being born again by the Spirit of God is believing in Jesus. Confessing your sin, desiring to turn from it.

(Matthew 9:13, Mark 1:16; 2:17; 6:12, 2 Corinthians 7:10, Acts 17:30)

FAITH - We must put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ

Tell them about true salvation. It’s more than just believing and repenting, we must also put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation.

(John 3:15-18)
